ABOUT THIS PIECE
This Joshaghan Persian carpet (290 × 214 cm) exemplifies the region’s celebrated garden lattice tradition. The field is laid out in a continuous diamond grid, each compartment filled with stylised floral shrubs, blossoms, and rosettes. At the centre, a dark indigo medallion anchors the composition, its crisp geometry enriched by vibrant madder red, ivory, emerald green, and sapphire blue accents.
Hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, the weave measures approximately 110 knots per square inch (≈36 Raj), placing it among the finer examples of mid-20th century Joshaghan production. Natural dyes provide depth and subtle abrash, particularly in the reds and blues, lending a lively authenticity to the design.
Durable yet refined, this piece works equally well as a decorative floor covering or a collector’s textile. Its timeless symmetry and vibrant palette bring the enduring artistry of central Persia into contemporary interiors.
