WHAT WE DO

Regular wash

A full soft-water wash for a rug in everyday use. It lifts the fine grit that settles deep in the pile, where it grinds against the fibres every time the rug is walked on.

Spot cleaning

For a single mark or spill on an otherwise clean rug. Tell us what it was and how long ago: some stains lift completely, some only fade, and we will say which before we start.

Deep cleaning

For a rug that has gone years without a wash, or has heavy soiling. We look it over with you first and tell you what to expect from the result.

Antiques and flatweaves

No solvents are used on antique pieces: neutral soap and a wool-safe rinse only. Kilims, sofrehs and other flatweaves get the same care as pile rugs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

How much does Persian rug cleaning cost?

Washing is $55 per square metre, priced on the dimensions of the rug. A 2 x 3 m rug is 6 square metres, so $330. A 0.8 x 3 m runner is 2.4 square metres, so $132. We measure the rug when you drop it off and confirm the price before we start.

How long does rug cleaning take?

About ten days from when you drop the rug at the gallery. We let you know as soon as it is ready to collect.

Do you steam clean rugs?

No. Every rug is washed by hand with soft water and neutral soap. Steam and hot-water extraction are made for wall-to-wall carpet; on a handwoven wool rug they can leave dirt deep in the pile and make natural dyes run.

How often should a Persian rug be washed?

Every three to five years in most homes, and more often for a rug in a hallway, under a dining table or in a house with pets. Between washes, vacuum it weekly on low suction without a rotating brush, and turn it every six months so it wears evenly.

Will every stain come out?

Not always. Fresh spills usually lift. Old stains, and marks that have changed the colour of the wool, may only fade. We will tell you what to expect when we look at the rug, before any work starts.

Can you wash antique rugs and kilims?

Yes. Antique pieces are washed without solvents, using neutral soap and a wool-safe rinse. Kilims, sofrehs and other flatweaves are washed with the same care as pile rugs.
