ABOUT THIS PIECE
This Bakhtiari Faradonbeh Golfarang vagireh rug was woven in the 1940s–50s as a sampler or design plan. Measuring 127 × 90 cm, it functioned as a weaver’s blueprint for larger carpets, presenting the full floral grammar and border systems of the Faradonbeh tradition. The field bursts with rose sprays in madder red, salmon, and ivory, framed by indigo outlines and distinctive cartouche borders. The palette is predominantly natural, with reds and salmons derived from madder that show lively abrash, and indigo providing depth in the outlines. Golden yellows from plant dyes enrich the composition. The foundation is cotton with a durable wool pile, tied in symmetrical knots at around 31 Raj (81 KPSI). More than a decorative piece, this Persian rug is a collectible sampler and an enduring record of Bakhtiari Golfarang design.
