ABOUT THIS PIECE
A striking tribal kilim from the Qashqai confederacy, woven between 1965 and 1975 in the settled weaving villages of Fars Province. The field is anchored by a vertical procession of hexagonal shield medallions enclosing hooked-star motifs in madder red, ivory, and walnut brown, punctuated by latch-hook diamonds in deep indigo. The ivory-ground border carries rosettes and abstract forms in cobalt, terracotta, and orange, framed by reciprocal motifs and brocaded end bands, a hallmark of mid-century Qashqai flatweaves.
Woven in tightly packed slit tapestry with handspun wool on wool, this piece has a supple, flexible handle. The palette is rooted in natural dyes including madder, walnut husk, and indigo, with selective early synthetic orange used for accent. Condition is excellent with original side cords and fringe panels intact. A collectible Persian carpet that balances tribal authenticity with mid-century clarity, ideal for display or floor use in contemporary interior
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
244 × 163 CM (8' × 5'4"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 42 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a queen bed with 46 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
