ABOUT THIS PIECE
This handwoven kilim presents a 9 field grid of warm ochre medallions on a luminous ivory ground, framed by precise zigzag bands of indigo and vivid orange. Crafted by a Qashqai Jahad-Baft cooperative in the early 1990s, its all wool flatweave structure is tightly beaten for a crisply defined surface and seamless motif repeat. A detailed dye study reveals two distinct orange lots: broad medallions showing natural madder abrash, with subtle shifts from salmon to rust, and smaller motifs glowing in a uniformly bright synthetic orange. Indigo highlights exhibit gentle abrash typical of natural vats. Pristine overcast selvedges and studio loom tension confirm cooperative production. This collectible Persian carpet enriches living and dining areas with layered texture and authentic tribal character.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
289 × 165 CM (9'6" × 5'5"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 43 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a king bed with 53 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
