ABOUT THIS PIECE
A bold Qashqai kilim from Fars, woven in a crisp diamond lattice filled with latch hook and stylised bird motifs. The terracotta ground plays against deep indigo and midnight blue, softened by straw, peach, and teal abrash that enlivens the surface. All colours are from natural dyes, with madder-based reds, indigo blues, and plant derived yellows blending to form the greenish tones. Both warp and weft are hand spun wool, their subtle irregularities adding depth and life to the weave. The slit-tapestry technique produces clean, stepped outlines, while the handle remains supple yet robust for practical use. In excellent condition with secure selvedges and even fringes, this Persian carpet is an adaptable piece for living rooms, dining spaces, or layered contemporary interiors, bringing the enduring geometry and colour harmony of authentic tribal weaving into the home.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
250 × 162 CM (8'2" × 5'4"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 41 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a queen bed with 49 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
