Qashqai Persian Kilim Rug with Diamond Lattice, c. 1980s
ABOUT THIS PIECE
A joyful Qashqai kilim from Fars Province South Western Iran , its field set with floating diamond medallions on a deep crimson ground and framed by a bold reciprocal ivory and navy border. Broad, banded skirts add rhythm at each end. The handle is supple, so it lays beautifully and is easy to style. Colour is confident and warm: madder-based reds and indigo sit beside sunny orange and rose highlights typical of late twentieth-century Fars weaving. Drafting is neat, spacing consistent, and the fringed brown wool warps are intact. Use it to anchor a living room, bring warmth to a dining space, or hang it as a graphic statement. This handwoven Persian rug delivers the geometry and authenticity collectors love while remaining practical for contemporary homes. A vintage Persian carpet with real tribal character and superb decoration.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
239 × 161 CM (7'10" × 5'3"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 41 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a double bed with 51 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
