ABOUT THIS PIECE
A spirited Qashqai Farsimadan Persian kilim from Fars, woven in slit tapestry with two large stepped diamonds and scattered ashik rosettes. The ground moves from rose to coral in quiet madder abrash, framed by deep indigo, ivory and a warm pumpkin orange. Borders pair a triangle mountain band with a white rosette chain, a grammar seen on earlier village work. Ends carry stacked brocaded guards and tidy fringe, with two-colour side cords giving a neat finish. Warps and wefts are hand-spun wool; the handle is supple. The palette appears naturally dyed, including salmon pinks that sit within light madder or lac rather than chrome. This tribal rug offers graphic clarity without glare and layers beautifully with timber, stone and plaster. A collectible Persian carpet for designers and Qashqai enthusiasts.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
245 × 153 CM (8' × 5'), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 37 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a queen bed with 46 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
