Vintage Qashqai Boteh Persian Poshti Rug .
ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven by Qashqai nomads of southwestern Persia.
Qashqai nomadic carpets are unique one of a kind piece of art handwoven through a combination of improvisation and reference to folk iconography.
In this carpet, we see the iteration of the Boteh motif which is an abstraction of the Sarv tree (cypress) symbolizing eternity and endurance in Persian culture.
Handwoven on horizontal looms, Qashqai carpets are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes, Qashqai nomadic carpets often depict an aerial view abstraction of the weaver’s pastoral nomadic life, featuring many animals, people and plants and fields.
Qashqai weaving techniques and more generally the weaving traditions of Fars, are registered as world intangible heritage by Unesco.
