ABOUT THIS PIECE
A striking Qashqai tribal rug from the Shesh Boluki subclan, woven in the mid twentieth century in the highlands of southern Fars. Three stepped medallions in deep indigo rise through a saturated madder-red field, each drawn in a crisp ivory serration, and the ground is animated throughout with stylised rosettes, birds and abstracted quadrupeds, the signature vocabulary of Shesh Boluki weaving.
The colour is the heart of it. Deep indigo, warm madder reds, walnut brown, and a bright undyed ivory that holds its brilliance against the field. The wool is handspun, soft and lustrous in the way highland Fars fleece tends to be, and the rug is firmly and evenly knotted with symmetrical knots on a wool foundation.
Well proportioned and in excellent condition following a recent professional wash. A piece for a collector, or for an interior that wants genuine tribal character.

SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
215 × 161 CM (7'1" × 5'3"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 41 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Only 31 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
