ABOUT THIS PIECE
Three inky-blue diamonds float inside a madder red field alive with tiny rosettes, echoing the migration routes of Qashqai weavers south of Shiraz. Latch-hook spandrels and arrowhead borders keep the eye moving, while apricot, walnut and olive accents brighten the ground. The handle is supple thanks to hand-spun Fars wool twisted around wool warps and paired wool wefts. Counted at four knots per centimetre in both directions, the weave sits around one hundred knots per square inch, or roughly twenty-eight Raj, giving crisp outlines without sacrificing drape. All pigments appear natural on close inspection, from madder reds and indigo blues to walnut browns, with gentle abrash but none of the tell-tale glare of aniline. Nearly full pile, tidy selvedges and complete fringes make this vintage Persian rug ready for interiors that value warmth, craft and history.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
254 × 163 CM (8'4" × 5'4"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 42 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a queen bed with 51 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
