ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven by Qashqai nomads of southwestern Persia.
Traditionally woven as thick floor covering for winter months, Gabbehs are unique one of a kind pieces of art handwoven by nomads of the mountainous Fars region.
Gabbehs exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, checkered designs and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna.
Handwoven on horizontal looms, Fars Gabbehs are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes and feature a thick soft lustrous pile.
Gabbehs and more generally the weaving traditions of Fars region are registered by UNESCO as a part of world intangible heritages.

265 × 35 CM (8'8" × 1'2"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Suits a hallway about 65 to 95 cm wide, leaving 15 to 30 cm of floor showing along each side. It needs about 325 cm of length to leave some floor at both ends.
