ABOUT THIS PIECE
This finely handknotted Bijar Mahi Persian rug showcases the enduring elegance of the Herati pattern, executed in a tightly drawn stepped medallion with matching spandrels. Woven on a full cotton foundation with symmetrical knots, the piece reflects the precision of northwest Persian workshop weaving during the 1960-70s. The palette blends deep natural indigo blues, rich madder reds, and warm golden tones with subtle abrash, accented by ivory highlights. Crisp black outlines provide refined contrast, indicating mid 20th century production. The dense, compact weave, typical of Bijar’s “iron carpet” reputation, ensures exceptional durability, while the harmonious design suits both traditional and contemporary interiors. Ideal as a statement in a formal lounge, dining room, or executive office, this Persian carpet balances craftsmanship, beauty, and longevity.
