ABOUT THIS PIECE
Abadeh is a small city located within the summer residence of the Qashqai Confederacy and about halfway between the major carpet producing cities of Isfahan and Shiraz. With a reputation for producing the most finely woven Qashqai rugs, Abade carpets feature unique nomadic designs combined with the quality of craftsmanship, durability and weaving techniques often seen in high-end urban rugs.
This finely woven Abadeh Kharak Persian rug showcases the region’s renowned 40 Raj craftsmanship, pairing crisp wool pile with a robust cotton foundation. The ivory field is dominated by a central Tree of Life motif rising from the lower spandrels, flanked by stylised birds, botehs, and floral sprays in a lively palette of indigo, sky blue, madder red, gold, and soft green. A pale-blue octagonal medallion anchors the design at the centre, while the red spandrels are adorned with rosettes, geometric blossoms, and small fauna, framed by a traditional herati-pattern border. The balanced drawing and clarity of weave reflect Abadeh Kharak’s mid–late 20th century production aimed at both local and export markets. Well-suited for hallways or narrow rooms, this Persian carpet offers enduring durability, intricate artistry, and an uplifting colour harmony, ideal for collectors or interiors seeking a piece with both precision and charm.
The Qashqai nomadic rugs are unique pieces of art, handwoven through a combination of improvisation and reference to folk iconography. Made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes, Qashqai nomadic rugs often depict an aerial view abstraction of the weaver’s pastoral nomadic life, featuring many animals, people and plants and fields. This Abade Qashqai carpet features wool on cotton construction with a finely woven thick and lustrous pile.
