ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven using tightly knotted wool for the pile on a durable cotton foundation in Najaf Abad, Central Iran.
Najaf Abad carpets share many similarities with the designs of the neighbouring city of Isfahan with Shah Abbas patterns. Famous for their precise symmetry, Najaf Abad rugs are primarily woven in a floral allover or medallion style and some times tile design. Their field colours are ivory or pomegranate red, although a small percentage have a blue field. In addition to these colours, varying shades of green, blue, gold, brown, grey, cinnamon, and other hues are chosen for the design elements, borders, and medallion.
