ABOUT THIS PIECE
Finely handwoven from handspun wool and using 100% natural dyes in Isfahan, centre of Iran, this carpet features the famous Kheshti design. Historically, Isfahan was a weaving and cultural centre of great importance with its culmination as the capital of Shah Abbas’s reign, the great patron of the arts in the 16th century. Since this time Isfahan has produced carpets of great technical skill and sophisticated aesthetics. Known for their artful designs, Isfahan weavers have been influenced by other important art forms including calligraphy, book design and mosaic work. From the 16th century onward Isfahani weavers introduced distinctively curvilinear, delicate floral forms and refined classical designs such as the arabesque, scroll, vine interlacement, vase, and hunting motifs, which have made Isfahan carpets one of the most collectibly valuable rugs worldwide.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
198 × 137 CM (6'6" × 4'6"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
Only 29 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Only 23 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
