Handwoven by villagers of Bijar in Western Persia. Bijar Kilims are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes. These rugs were traditionally woven as gifts and dowries for young brides.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
