ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven using handspun wool and natural dyes.
Quchani kilims, and in general the kilims of Khorasani Kurds of northeastern Persia, are woven for various purposes. Due to their high moisture resistance, they are used as tablecloths and bread containers. They are spread to honour visitors in religious ceremonies and celebrations and in front of tents to welcome the brides at weddings. Quchani kilims, as the people of the region have used them, foster unity and blessing among the people of the region. Fused with the intricate design, these functions of the Quchani kilims have turned this carpet into distinctive sacred weaves.
kilims are a type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
187 × 95 CM (6'2" × 3'1"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Small beside a 3-seater sofa. It suits a reading corner, under an armchair or across an entry better than a sofa setting.
Only 8 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Narrower than a queen bed, so it sits across the foot of the bed, tucked 20 cm under. A pair of runners either side is the other way to dress a bed this size.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
