ABOUT THIS PIECE
This vibrant Qashqai kilim from the Fars province presents a striking and unusual palette, blending rose red, salmon pink, ochre, sky blue, charcoal, and sandy beige in a finely balanced composition. Woven entirely in handspun wool with a supple, cloth like handle, it displays the precision of a tight flatweave at approximately 7 wefts per centimetre. The design is anchored by horizontal panels of stylised butterfly motifs, a celebrated symbol of beauty and transformation in Qashqai weaving, alternating with hexagonal medallions, latch hook diamonds, and serrated triangles. The unusual colour harmony, with softer pinks and sandy tones alongside traditional madder reds and indigo blues, appears to be produced entirely from natural dyes upon visual inspection. Suitable for floor use or wall display, this mid 20th century example stands out for its bold iconography and rare palette, making it a compelling piece for collectors and interiors seeking authentic tribal character.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
235 × 167 CM (7'9" × 5'6"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 44 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a double bed with 49 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
