Antique Bakhtiari rare Large lattices oversized fine Persian Rug
ABOUT THIS PIECE
Masterfully Handwoven in Chahar Mahl region of western Persia.
The region of Chaharmahal on the slopes of Mount Zardkuh is famous for producing some of the most unique and hardy village carpets of Persia. Featuring a unique combination of geometric village motifs and elaborate floral designs inspired by motifs of nearby Isfahan, Chaharmahl rugs are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes and are famous for their character and individuality.
Oversized Bakhtiari Chaharmahal carpets are the result of cooperation between a group of expert weavers and dye specialists and can take over half a dozen years to complete. They require a massive investment of time, expertise and material while achieving overall balance and harmony on such a large scale is in itself a significant artistic achievement.
Handwoven Utilizing a rare large Qabi Sarv (cypress lattices) motif, Cypresses are utilized in this carpet as a sign of eternal life interconnected with a series of large intricate bell-shaped lattices.
This carpet has been produced in the early 20th Century and still features a lustrous soft pile with vivid and live Abrash colours owing to the use of high-quality handspun wool and natural dyes used in its construction
