ABOUT THIS PIECE
Masterfully Handwoven in Chahar Mahal region of western Persia.
Woven over a hundred years ago, this carpet still features a lustrous, soft pile with vivid colours owing to the use of high-quality handspun wool and natural dyes in its construction.
Faradonbeh is a village with a deep-rooted legacy in carpet weaving, passed down through its largely Turkic-speaking community, likely from the Abiverdi tribe.
With a history spanning centuries, Faradonbeh’s carpets gained recognition 160 years ago, blending foreign and local designs that set them apart. Signature motifs, such as roses surrounded by delicate leaves, reflect the unique artistry of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari artisans. Crafted from hand-spun sheep’s wool, dyed with natural hues from madder, weld, and walnut husks, these carpets showcase patterns of flowers, vases, medallions, trees, and mihrabs, often improvised by the weavers themselves. Faradonbeh carpets capture a unique heritage of eclectic artistry and craftsmanship.
