Sirjan Afshar Double Toranj Flora Persian Rug
ABOUT THIS PIECE
This all-in-wool vintage Sirjan Afshar double Toranj carpet has been handwoven by Afshar nomads inhabiting the mountains of Kerman province, central Persia.
Woven from fine sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes, in an improvised iteration of the flower vases design, Afshar carpets are famous for their unique designs and durable construction.
Nomadic carpets are unique pieces of art, handwoven over many years through improvisation and reference to folk iconography specific to each region and using fine locally sourced and handspun wool. Nomadic carpets often depict an aerial view abstraction of the weaver’s pastoral nomadic life and their place in the universe, featuring many animals, people and plants and fields.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
190 × 138 CM (6'3" × 4'6"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
Only 29 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Narrower than a queen bed, so it sits across the foot of the bed, tucked 20 cm under. A pair of runners either side is the other way to dress a bed this size.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
