ABOUT THIS PIECE
This contemporary Afshar Persian rug exemplifies the enduring artistry of south eastern Iran’s weaving tradition, created entirely with hand spun wool and all natural dyes. The open ivory field is anchored by two finely drawn square medallions in rich madder red, framed with floral and vine motifs in natural indigo, soft gold, and glowing orange. A striking border alternates stylised boteh and botanical panels on contrasting madder and cream grounds, creating a rhythmic frame that draws the eye inward. Hand spun ivory wool warps and alternating light red and ivory double wefts give the rug a supple yet resilient handle reminiscent of older village pieces. The natural dye palette reveals subtle abrash, from the gentle shifts in the orange highlights to the deep tonal variations in the reds and blues. This Persian carpet offers heritage craftsmanship with a fresh, versatile design for both modern and traditional interiors.
