ABOUT THIS PIECE
This vintage Bakhtiar Tree of Life rug has been masterfully Handwoven in Chahar Mahal region of western Persia. The region of Chahar Mahal on the slopes of Mount Zardkuh is famous for producing some of the most unique and hardy village carpets of Persia. Featuring a unique combination of geometric village motifs and elaborate floral designs inspired by motifs of nearby Isfahan, Chahar Mahal rugs are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes and are famous for their character and individuality.
The idea of a ‘tree-of-life’ and its meaning has existed for centuries in many cultures and at its most basic, it has represented a tree of many branches which stands as a metaphor for how all life on Earth is connected to spirituality. In Persian carpets, specifically, it is one of the most significant motifs representing fertility, creation, the desire for heaven, and continuity, to mention a few.
This carpet has been produced decades ago and still features a lustrous thick soft pile with vivid and live Abrash colours owing to the use of high-quality handspun wool and natural dyes used in its construction.
