ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven by Qashqai nomads of southwestern Persia.
Qashqai nomadic carpets are unique one of a kind piece of art handwoven through a combination of improvisation and reference to folk iconography.
The term Qabi (frame-like) or Kheshti (brick-like), as these carpets are titled, is derived from the bricks used in old traditional buildings in Persia which are prepared in the form of cubes with different dimensions from the combination of clay and water. In each of these frames, you can usually see motifs of Persian carpet design. These distinctive rugs suit in unique harmony with modern interior design.
Handwoven on horizontal looms, Qashqai carpets are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes, Qashqai nomadic carpets often depict an aerial view abstraction of the weaver’s pastoral nomadic life, featuring many animals, people and plants and fields.
Qashqai weaving techniques and more generally the weaving traditions of Fars, are registered as world intangible heritage by Unesco.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
220 × 115 CM (7'3" × 3'9"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Small beside a 3-seater sofa. It suits a reading corner, under an armchair or across an entry better than a sofa setting.
Only 18 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Only 34 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
