ABOUT THIS PIECE
This Tabriz Mahi Dorosht Persian rug from the 1960s–70s reflects the grandeur of Northwest Persian workshop weaving. The design showcases a large scale Mahi (Herati) pattern, centred by a lozenge medallion and softened by ivory spandrels, with bold navy borders enriched by palmettes and rosettes. Its colour harmony of indigo blue, madder red, and vegetal green gives depth and sophistication, enhanced by subtle abrash that enriches the field without disturbing the symmetry.
Knotted in wool on a strong cotton foundation, the rug demonstrates the clarity and refinement of mid-20th century Tabriz craftsmanship. Its size of 289 × 183 cm makes it versatile, suitable for dining rooms, formal living spaces, or refined entry halls. Durable yet elegant, this Persian carpet embodies cultural heritage while remaining timeless in appeal, making it a sought-after choice for collectors and Melbourne interiors.
