ABOUT THIS PIECE
This distinguished Persian Mahal Ziegler rug is hand knotted in Soltanabad, Arak Province, Iran, the historic centre of the renowned Ziegler & Co. productions of the late 19th century. The pistachio green field is framed by a cream border and filled with large-scale palmettes, rosettes, and saz leaves in light blue, apricot, and sand. The rug is woven in high-quality wool pile on a cotton warp and weft with a fine 25 Raj knot count, producing a supple handle and exceptional durability. The colours are achieved entirely with all natural dyes, giving a rich depth and gentle abrash that mirrors the beauty of antique Mahal and Ziegler carpets. The harmonious pastel palette and balanced floral layout create a timeless accent for Melbourne interiors, from grand period residences to refined contemporary spaces. In excellent condition, this Iranian Mahal Ziegler carpet embodies the elegance, authenticity, and enduring craftsmanship of Soltanabad weaving.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
249 × 161 CM (8'2" × 5'3"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 41 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a queen bed with 48 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
