Moqan Mountain Goats Soumak Kilim
ABOUT THIS PIECE
Expertly handwoven in Moqan northwestern Persia, with fine local handspun goat’s wool and 100% natural dyes. This beautiful vintage kilim features an eye-catching geometric red-orange Toranj on an indigo base.
Soumak kilims are intricate flatweaves produced using the warp replacement technique. Weaving a soumak requires significantly more skill and time compared to a flatweave kilim.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
