Vintage Baluch Toranj Stripe Persian Runner Rug
ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven by Nomads in Baluchestan southeastern Persia, with fine local handspun wool and 100% natural dyes.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
Nomadic weaves are unique pieces of art, handwoven over many years through improvisation and reference to folk iconography specific to each region and using fine locally sourced and handspun wool. Nomadic carpets often depict an aerial view abstraction of the weaver’s pastoral nomadic life and their place in the universe, featuring many animals, people, and plants and fields.
