ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven in the Bijar in the west of Persia, These Jajims are well-known for their warm colours and the use of high-quality sheep wool.
Souzani/Soumak Jajims are intricate flatweaves produced using the warp replacement technique. Weaving a Souzani/Soumak Jajim requires significantly more skill and time compared to a flatweave kilim.
Jajims Are strip woven textiles woven on small narrow horizontal looms. Each Jajim is made of number of stripes stitched together to form one larger piece. Jajims can be very heavy toquite light depending on the type of wool and the weaving technique used. From floor pieces to large blankets, clothes wraps or curtains They were traditionally used for a variety of purposes by nomadic people all around Persia, Anatolia and central Asia, Each nomadic confederacy would have a unique signature style of weaving which can produce many different types of Jajims.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
190 × 165 CM (6'3" × 5'5"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 35 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Narrower than a queen bed, so it sits across the foot of the bed, tucked 20 cm under. A pair of runners either side is the other way to dress a bed this size.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
