ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven by nomads of Persia.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
The chalipa is a traditional geometric motif found in Islamic and Central Asian art, characterized by a symmetrical cross design with intersecting lines. It symbolizes balance, unity, and spiritual harmony, and is commonly used in textiles, ceramics, and architectural decoration.
