ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven using handspun wool and 100% natural dyes,
Behind the simple patterns of Kamu kilims in Iranian culture lies a profound and mystical meaning. the simplicity of these kilim-sofres can be understood in contrast to the ornamented kilim-sofre of the aristocrats, which, in addition to a silent protest, also displays a symbol of humbleness and poverty, which can be of heightened dignity for Persian culture.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
202 × 146 CM (6'8" × 4'9"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
Only 33 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Only 25 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
