ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven by villagers of Bijar in Western Persia. Bijar Kilims are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes. With their rich and varied hues, Alvan (which means colourful in Persian) rugs are a captivating choice for adding a pop of colour to any space.
These rugs were traditionally woven as gifts and dowries for young brides.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
171 × 76 CM (5'7" × 2'6"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Small beside a 3-seater sofa. It suits a reading corner, under an armchair or across an entry better than a sofa setting.
Only 0 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Narrower than a queen bed, so it sits across the foot of the bed, tucked 20 cm under. A pair of runners either side is the other way to dress a bed this size.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
