ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven in the famous rug-weaving city of Tabriz,
Masterfully handwoven from Fine local handspun wool on a durable cotton foundation.
In the world of carpet weaving, Tabriz carpets stand out for their finesse and use of a diverse palette of colours. Skillful artisans, with a passion for perfection, expertly maintain short piles, polishing these carpets to a luxurious sheen. Using durable cotton foundation, these carpets are not just woven; they are woven to last, promising enduring beauty for generations to come.
This finely woven antique Persian Tabriz carpet , embodies the celebrated “Harmony” design, an early 20th-century workshop adaptation of the classical Shah Abbasi arabesque. Across a parchment-toned field, a continuous lattice of scrolling islimi vines, palmettes, and lotus blossoms unfolds with measured precision, framed by a palmette-and-flowerhead border on an ivory ground. The palette, with midnight indigo, madder red, ochre, and soft celadon, has mellowed to a warm patina through natural ageing. Cotton warp and weft support a resilient wool pile, the even oxidation of darker tones adding depth to the composition. Woven in Tabriz during the interwar decades, when demand for sophisticated yet versatile room-sized carpets was at its height, this piece offers both historic craftsmanship and timeless decorative appeal. Ideal for a formal reception space, dining room, or gallery setting
Tabriz rugs are also known for their artful incorporation of light shades. These gentle hues weave a captivating dance across the intricate patterns, creating a subtle yet enchanting depth. This delicate play of colours adds a touch of sophistication that captures the eyes and minds of every rug lover!
