ABOUT THIS PIECE
This Torkaman rug has been Masterfully handwoven, using horizontal looms, by the Torkaman nomads of northeastern Persia, all-natural dye and handspun sheep wool.
In Torkaman’s handwoven carpets, only thin weft is used making them more pliable, soft, and pleasant and since they live in cold regions, their carpets are polished thickly with long piles. Passed down through generations, one of the most notable aspects of Torkaman carpet designs is that each tribe has its own motifs derived from its environment, history, and beliefs depicted in elaborate abstract forms.
