ABOUT THIS PIECE
This vibrant Persian carpet was woven by Qashqai nomads in the Zagros highlands during the inter-war years. Three stepped diamonds drift across a madder-red field, each enclosing stylised four-petal blossoms on alternating ivory and midnight indigo. Serrated “mountain” borders, pinwheel rosettes, and scattered talismanic triangles enrich the ground, creating a rhythmic, almost musical surface. Hand-spun wool warps and wefts give the cloth a supple, liquid drape, while the crisp slit-tapestry joins reveal deft tribal workmanship. Reds glow with natural madder, blues settle into deep indigo, and the lively orange is a traditional madder-over-weld recipe; subtle abrash confirms its natural origin. Remarkably, the surface shows only gentle toning with no repairs, allowing the design to breathe exactly as it did on the loom. Sized for contemporary interiors yet steeped in nomadic heritage, this Persian rug doubles as wall art and a durable floor piece.
