ABOUT THIS PIECE
Antique Khamseh Persian rug, woven in late 19th century by the Shekarlou tribe of the Khamseh Confederation in Southern Persia. The field displays three stacked diamond medallions, each filled with serrated leaf motifs and stylised branches, framed by the classic “bird-head” border on an ivory ground. The palette is richly saturated with natural dyes: deep madder reds, indigo blues, emerald greens, golden yellows, and ivory, all enlivened by attractive abrash. Constructed with wool warps and double red wool wefts, the rug has a supple handle and medium-fine weave of around 30 Raj.
Its condition is excellent for its age, with strong pile and original selvedges preserved. Collectors value Shekarlou rugs for their rare tribal character and balanced geometry, placing this example firmly within the most desirable group of Khamseh tribal weavings. A true Persian carpet for connoisseurs and interior settings alike.
The Khamseh Shekarlou South Persian Carpet reflects the spirit of Khamseh tribal weaving, with its bold geometry, rich natural dyes, and unmistakable character that continues to captivate collectors and lovers of authentic Persian rugs.
