ABOUT THIS PIECE
Finely handwoven from handspun camel wool with natural dyes in Quchan, northeastern Iran, this eye-catching Muharramat rug has been woven using symmetrical knots on an intricate horizontal loom.
Quchan carpets are well-known for their improvised geometric designs resulting in the uniqueness of each carpet. This remarkable carpet features the Muharramat design which is the form of stripes that covers the entire length of the rug and each stripe is decorated with a pattern and colour.
Quchan weavers primarily produced pile rugs for their own use; thus, these weavings are very seldom available in the market.
Woven over a century ago this carpet still maintains its natural lustre and shine due to the high-quality materials used in its construction.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
180 × 115 CM (5'11" × 3'9"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Small beside a 3-seater sofa. It suits a reading corner, under an armchair or across an entry better than a sofa setting.
Only 18 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Narrower than a queen bed, so it sits across the foot of the bed, tucked 20 cm under. A pair of runners either side is the other way to dress a bed this size.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
