Vintage Zanjan Khamse Lachak Toranj Persian Rug
ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven by Khamse nomads and villagers of Zanjan, northwestern Persia.
Khamse carpets feature a unique combination of Northern and southern Zagros owing to the Khamse people originally migrating from Fars to Zanjan.
Woven from fine local handspun wool, on a durable cotton foundation, using fine dyes to achieve a beautiful unique Abrash colouring,
A highly desired quality, Abrash refers to when different shades of the same colour are present on a carpet, revealing expert use of dyes and small scale manufacturing of the carpet.
Nomadic carpets are unique pieces of art, handwoven over many years through improvisation and reference to folk iconography specific to each region and using fine locally sourced and handspun wool. Nomadic carpets often depict an aerial view abstraction of the weaver’s pastoral nomadic life and their place in the universe, featuring many animals, people and plants and fields.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
225 × 130 CM (7'5" × 4'3"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
Only 25 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Only 36 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
