Vintage Torkaman Teal Bukhara Persian Rug
ABOUT THIS PIECE
Masterfully handwoven, using horizontal looms, by the Torkaman nomads of northeastern Persia, all natural dye and 100% handspun sheep wool.
In Torkaman’s handwoven carpets only thin weft is used making them more pliable, soft, and pleasant and since they live in cold regions, their carpets are polished thickly with long piles. Passed down through generations, one of the most notable aspects of Torkaman carpet designs is that each tribe has its own motifs derived from its environment, history, and beliefs depicted in elaborate abstract forms.
