ABOUT THIS PIECE
Expertly handwoven by Bakhtiari nomads of Southwestern Persia using locally sourced handspun wool.
Bakhtiari kilims have an important characteristic which is the originality of the designs and plans, in a way that they are less eclectic than the designs of other nomads. The way Bakhtiari kilims are woven is fundamentally different from that of others, and that is the existence of five double layers of threads with cotton warp and woollen weft. The result of this type of texture is the firmness of the carpet’s surface. Generally, Bakhtiari kilims are long and narrow, and they are woven in colours such as red, yellow, blue and orange.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilims exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
