ABOUT THIS PIECE

Handwoven by the Kashkuli clan of Qashqai nomads in southwestern Persia.

Qashqai nomadic carpets are unique one of a kind piece of art handwoven through a combination of improvisation and reference to folk iconography. Kashkuli carpets are famous for their authentic tribal design.

Handwoven on horizontal looms, Qashqai carpets are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes, Qashqai nomadic carpets often depict an aerial view abstraction of the weaver’s pastoral nomadic life, featuring many animals, people and plants and fields.

Qashqai weaving techniques and more generally the weaving traditions of Fars, are registered as world intangible heritage by Unesco.
