ABOUT THIS PIECE
This fine Kashkouli Persian rug, woven circa 1915–1930 in Fars Province, represents the height of early settled Qashqai craftsmanship. Its field is an exquisite millefleur garden of twin rosettes and vine scrolls, framed by crimson spandrels and a midnight-ground border. Hand-knotted in luminous, silky wool on a cotton foundation using asymmetric (open-right) knots at approximately 35 Raj (≈ 105 KPSI), the weave displays urban-level refinement while retaining a supple, tribal handle. Natural dyes yield a palette of madder red, indigo, golden yellow, and soft ivory, with light oxidation in the browns attesting to authentic vegetal colourants. This rare fusion of precision and warmth captures the moment when Kashkouli weavers transitioned from nomadic to workshop looms, producing pieces sought today by collectors and designers alike. Elegant and luminous, it embodies the refined soul of South Persian weaving.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
255 × 163 CM (8'4" × 5'4"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 42 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a queen bed with 51 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
