ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven in the Azarbaijan region, Northwestern Iran, with Caucasian design and high-quality lustrous wool pile.
Some rural Northwestern carpets of Iran skillfully blend Persian motifs with Caucasian designs, reflecting the proximity between these traditions. This amalgamation results in artful rugs that combine the unique quality of Persian handwoven rugs with the famous and age-old designs found in the Caucasian region.
Older Caucasian design rugs are among the most valuable and fascinating rugs because of their exquisite vegetable dyes and tribal patterns. Famous for their rich colours, daring geometric drawing, and bold designs, they are sought after by collectors for their rugged authenticity. Their most renowned characteristic is their monumental and graphic medallion compositions. Interior designers love to use the complexity and colour of Caucasian rug designs to balance out minimalist design schemes.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
210 × 127 CM (6'11" × 4'2"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
Only 24 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Only 29 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
