ABOUT THIS PIECE
Finely handwoven in Kerman Southeastern Persia from fines sustainably sourced local handspun wool on a durable dense cotton foundation. Kerman is one of the most prestigious and historical carpet weaving centers in Persia. Having been recognized and praised since the 16th century, Kerman carpets have found their way to many European palaces.
The idea of a ‘tree-of-life’ and its meaning has existed for centuries in many cultures and at its most basic, it has represented a tree of many branches which stands as a metaphor for how all life on Earth is connected to spirituality. In Persian carpets, specifically, the “tree of life” is one of the most significant motifs representing fertility, creation, the desire for heaven, and continuity, to mention a few. In Kerman carpets, trees also suggest the weavers’ desire for nature, as the city of Kerman is located in a desert area.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
175 × 100 CM (5'9" × 3'3"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Small beside a 3-seater sofa. It suits a reading corner, under an armchair or across an entry better than a sofa setting.
Only 10 cm of rug would show beyond even a four-seat table, so the chairs would sit off it. This one belongs in a living room or bedroom.
Narrower than a queen bed, so it sits across the foot of the bed, tucked 20 cm under. A pair of runners either side is the other way to dress a bed this size.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
