ABOUT THIS PIECE
Handwoven in the Sarouk Village, nestled in the northern Arak province of Central Persia, Sarouk carpets are celebrated for their exceptional durability and the use of high-quality natural materials.
The livelihoods of the Sarouk people primarily revolve around livestock rearing and agriculture, ensuring that the raw materials and dyes used in the region’s carpets remain entirely natural. Moreover, the esteemed weavers of Sarouk employ a distinctive wefting technique, reinforcing the carpet’s structure by incorporating two weft threads after each row of weaving, with occasional additional weft threads inserted at intervals of 5 to 10 rows of knots.
In terms of design, the Sarouk region boasts a rich heritage of producing a diverse array of designs characterized by a unique interplay of colours. Notably, hues such as pastel red (Ghermez-e Doughi) and dark azure have garnered worldwide acclaim for their timeless appeal.
Sarouk Carpets have long enjoyed widespread popularity, particularly in the Western market, with the United States being a notable admirer of their exquisite craftsmanship and enduring beauty.
