ABOUT THIS PIECE
Finely handwoven in Sanneh in northwestern Persia from fine local handspun wool on a durable cotton foundation, Sanneh kilim are famous for their exceptional aesthetic, fineness, and unique method of construction allowing for elaborate designs to be created as a flat weave kilim.
Kilims are a terrific type of rug that is usually made from wool which is interwoven rather than knotted; this means that the surface is ‘flat’ instead of having a ‘pile’. Kilim exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, geometric shapes and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for various interiors.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
215 × 150 CM (7'1" × 4'11"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 35 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Only 31 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
