Vintage Meshkin Mowj Persian Kilim Rug

ABOUT THIS PIECE
A vintage Meshkin kilim from Azarbaijan in northwest Persia, flatwoven in wool on a cotton foundation, with a mowj field of zigzag waves.
Zigzag bands in soft apricot and lilac run across the field, broken by sage, charcoal and brown, and the shades shift from one band to the next. A wide ivory border carries hooked lozenges in the same colours, and a stepped brown edge frames the whole.
Mowj is Persian for wave, a design the kilim weavers of the northwest return to often.
At 275 by 160cm it suits a living room or a bedroom. View it in our Richmond gallery, or explore more Persian kilims.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
275 × 160 CM (9' × 5'3"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
Long enough for a 3-seater sofa but not deep enough to reach under its front legs as well as hold the coffee table, so it sits just in front with the table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 40 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Under the lower part of a king bed with 46 cm of rug showing on each side, so your feet land on it either side of the bed.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
