New Weave Qashqai Shooli Diamonds Persian Gabbeh Rug
ABOUT THIS PIECE
This colourful Shooli Gabbeh has been handwoven all in wool by the Qashqai nomads of southern Iran. Traditionally woven for the weavers’ own use as a thick floor covering for winter months or as sleeping rugs, Gabbehs are unique one of a kind pieces of art made by nomad women of the Zagros mountains.
Gabbehs exhibit some of the most original and unique designs within Persian rugs, with simple fields of colours, checkered designs and symbols and motifs of flora and fauna. With their minimal design elements, they are perfectly suited for modern interiors. Additionally, they can be easily incorporated into most eclectic decorating schemes and work well with traditional Persian carpets. Most of the recent Gabbehs are filled with colour with the weaver’s creativity being given free rein. The beauty of these rugs is their unmistakable uniqueness.
Handwoven, usually by women, on horizontal looms, Gabbehs are made from sustainably sourced local handspun wool and natural dyes and feature a thick, soft, lustrous pile.
SPECIFICATIONS
How it sits in your room.
223 × 157 CM (7'4" × 5'2"), DRAWN TO SCALE WITH TYPICAL AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE SIZES.
About the length of a 3-seater sofa, so it sits just in front of it with the coffee table on it. Floated like this it reads as a deliberate island rather than a rug that came up short.
The chairs sit on the rug at the table, but with 39 cm of rug beyond the table their back legs catch the edge when pulled out. 60 cm is the comfortable margin.
Only 35 cm of rug would show either side of a queen bed. It works, but 45 cm or more looks settled. At the foot of the bed it suits well.
Measure the room, or just the area the rug should cover, and we will draw this rug in it to scale.
