ABOUT THIS PIECE
This large handwoven Persian Gabbeh rug offers a striking reinterpretation of the traditional Shooli kilim aesthetic. Woven in Fars Province by Qashqai/Luri artisans, it features a wool foundation with triple-weft construction and handspun wool pile, producing the dense, resilient texture characteristic of authentic Gabbeh weaving.
Horizontal bands of madder red, indigo, saffron yellow, walnut brown, and vegetal greens are arranged in irregular sequence, creating a painterly rhythm that recalls nomadic stripe traditions while resonating with contemporary interiors. The use of 100% natural vegetable dyes ensures a luminous and lasting colour palette. Kilim edges finish the piece, reinforcing its continuity with flatweave practice.
At 297 × 216 cm (6.41 m²), this is a room-sized rug ideally suited for living areas or gallery-style display, balancing tribal authenticity with modern design sensibility.
